The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded on May 11, 1929 in Austin, TX. Thirty years later, almost to the day, Epsilon Rho Chapter was organized on May 9, 1959, in Pasadena, Texas, by Eula Lee Carter and Phyllis Ellis, sponsored by Beta Eta Chapter of Harris County. Epsilon Rho was organized in the middle of a biennium and had thirty-one charter members. Bonlyn Mathews was the first president and served one year plus a biennium.
Epsilon Rho became the mother chapter to two other Delta Kappa Gamma chapters: Zeta Omega on November 17, 1962 and Theta Sigma on January 25, 1969.
